The Blazers open their 14th season today, as well as the professional debut of rookie Clyde Drexler. Portland opens at home versus the San Diego Clippers, which occasionally feature former Blazers center Bill Walton. Walton is not expected to play this evening, nor is former Portland guard Lionel Hollins, as he and the team have not yet reached an agreement. Other former Blazers, Bobby Gross and Michael Harper were released yesterday by the Clippers. A fourth player, Hank McDowell is on the active roster
Wayne Cooper led the Blazers in the win, totaling 21 points and 13 rebounds in 34 minutes. No other player from either team reached double-digits in rebounds but Norm Nixon did pass for 10 assists in his Clipper debut. Clyde Drexler, who is the youngest player in the league this season, made his regular season pro debut, playing 11 minutes and hitting his only FGA to score 2 points.

The Blazers lost a heartbreaker to Warriors. Jim Paxson led the Blazers with 27 but it was his errant pass to Kenny Carr that sailed out-of-bounds which secured the loss. Clyde Drexler came off the bench to score 12 points, the first time to reach double digits in scoring.

Jim Paxson hit a jumper with 47 seconds remaining to secure the Blazers 126-124 road win in San Antonio. Paxson finished with 20 points while Calvin Natt led the Blazers with 26 points. Darnell Valentine added 20 points and 10 assists and Mychal Thompson added 22 more. Of the five starters, only Wayne Cooper failed to hit double figures, finishing with 6 points. November 10The Blazers gathered a win vs Cavs despite 37 points by Cavs guard World B Free, including 13 in the final quarter when the Cavs outscored the Blazers 30-21. The Blazers started hot, leading 39-22 after the 1st quarter as Jim Paxson scored 11 points and Darnell Valentine added 10 in the opening quarter.

Jim Paxson, Wayne Cooper, and Clyde Drexler led a 1st half explosion that helped the Blazers to an easy victory over the Hawks. Paxson scored 12 points and Cooper added 10 in the opening quarter, with Drexler adding 13 in the 2nd quarter.

Kareem Abdul-Jabbar becomes the 2nd player in NBA History to score 30K points in his career. In his career as a member of the Bucks (25 games) or Lakers (75), Jabbar played an even 100 regular season games vs the Blazers and scored 2538 points. His team lost four times as a Buck and 27 as a Laker. Six times he scored less than 10 points but on the other end, seven times he scored between 41 to 50 points, and 76 times he scored more than 20 points.

The Blazers set a franchise record by scoring 156 points in a rout over the Denver Nuggets but it was slightly tainted as Doug Moe, the Nuggets coach, told his team during a timeout, to let the Blazers score to beat the record. With 1:12 remaining and the Blazers lead 146-111 points, the crowd was getting anxious to get to 150.
